ABS and Seatrium advancing digital technologies for shipyards

At Singapore Maritime Week, ABS launched detailed requirements to guide the industry in the application of smart technologies at shipyards and recognize Seatrium as the first shipyard group to deploy smart technologies in its operations, in line with the ABS Guide for Smart Technologies for Shipyards.Seatrium’s Mobile Wearable Personal Device (MWPD) Monitoring System, which leverages the internet of things (IOT) and platform technologies has also received Product Design Assessment (PDA) approval from ABS. The MWPD Monitoring System by Seatrium is integrated into smart devices that are deployed shipyard wide. These devices are worn on the wrists and intended to enhance the overall health and safety of shipyard workers with features such as fall detection, geo-location, emergency connectivity and real-time safety notifications.
Speed reduction for CII improvement is grossly overestimated

来源:Clarkson
The operational measure adopted by the IMO, Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), came into effect at the start of the year. As a result, a large share of the global fleet is expected to reduce sailing speed in order to comply, which would impact asset values. The Green Transition team, headed up by Kenneth Tveter, argue that CII improvement potential as a result of speed reduction can be grossly overestimated and that it will not necessarily improve CII ratings. Whilst some ships are needing to slow down significantly to comply, for others speed reduction isn’t viable at all and other costly measures and improvements need to be done. To assist, the Green Transition team has launched a new CII Assessment Modelling tool that, in some instances, has proven to be 30% more accurate than traditional modelling methodologies in predicting real-world fuel consumption, and CII, especially at lower speeds.
DSME sets sail for a fresh start reborn as Hanwha Ocean

South Korea’s shipbuilding major Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is set to undergo a significant transformation under the Hanwha Group. The company will soon be rebranded as Hanwha Ocean, marking a new era for the organization. In an extraordinary board meeting held on May 8, it was decided to propose amendments to DSME’s articles of incorporation. These proposed changes encompass not only the alteration of the corporate name but also the appointment of internal and external directors. The move is being announced on the back of a green light for Hanwha’s takeover deal from South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) issued last month. The long-awaited approval from South Korea’s regulatory body marked the removal of the final hurdle in DSME’s acquisition process. According to the agreed terms, Hanwha will assume a 49.3 percent stake in Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering through the acquisition of over 104 million newly issued shares.

structure n.
美 /ˈstrʌktʃər/ 英 /ˈstrʌktʃə(r)/
mooring n.
美 /'mʊrɪŋ/ 英 /'mɔːrɪŋ/
equipment n.
